One of the most memorable novelty songs of the postwar era, "Too Fat Polka (She's Too Fat for Me)" became a national hit in 1947 after popular radio personality Arthur Godfrey introduced it to American audiences. Written by Ross Mac Lean and Arthur Richardson, the humorous polka quickly entered the popular music repertoire and was subsequently recorded by numerous artists, helping revive interest in novelty and ethnic dance music during the late 1940s. The colorful cover features Arthur Godfrey's portrait alongside lively cartoon artwork illustrating the song's comic premise, making this an attractive example of postwar American popular music publishing. This copy is in Very Good condition. The cover remains bright and attractive with light general handling wear, minor edge rubbing, a few soft corner creases, and light age toning. A contemporary owner's name ("Nancy Whitman") appears neatly in pencil across the upper front cover, and a small penciled notation is present near the lower portion of the illustration. Interior pages are clean and complete with light toning consistent with age. A small pencil notation appears at the upper left of page four, though the music itself is complete and unobstructed. Binding remains secure with no significant tears or detached leaves observed. Copyrighted 1947 by Shapiro, Bernstein & Co., Inc. (R.K.O. Radio City Music Hall Building, New York). This appears to be the original 1947 sheet music issue published during the song's initial popularity. No evidence of a later reprint is visible. Arthur Godfrey (1903-1983) was one of America's most influential radio and television personalities during the 1940s and 1950s. His programs reached millions of listeners and viewers, and his endorsement could transform an obscure recording into a national bestseller. Known for his relaxed conversational style, Godfrey helped popularize countless songs and performers during the golden age of American broadcasting.…
