Il participe avec Gernez aux travaux de Pasteur sur les maladies des vers à soie à Pont-Gisquet (Gard) et accompagne ce dernier dans ses cinq séjours à Alès (1865-69). Nommé directeur de la Station séricole de l'Ecole d'agriculture de Montpellier en 1873, il donne des conférences aux éducateurs de vers à soie, fait paraître des articles sur la sériculture et fait traduire en français ou rééditer des ouvrages séricoles. Il essaie systématiquement les méthodes nouvelles d'éducation ou de grainage des vers à soie mises au point dans le monde entier.
