Hardcover. Etat : As New. Etat de la jaquette : None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 76 pages. Published in 2015. Exhibition Catalog. One of the best introductions to the art and achievement of Latin-American photography in our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the 2017 Reissued Edition. Published in a small and limited first print run (in 2015) as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Chris Pichler: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial hard boards with reproduction of Luis Gonzalez Palma's multi-panelled iconography, and titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by various contributors, a Who's Who of 20th and 21st centuries Latin-American photography. Edited with Essay by Delphine Sims. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the landmark exhibition of the Permanent Collection of Latin-American photography owned by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in October 2015. Presents "Looking In, Looking Out: Latin American Photography". An important addition to the rather scant literature on its all-important subject. "The documentary nature of Latin-American photography has brought clarity and artistic appreciation to the countries of the region since the camera arrived in the 19th century. The photographers of Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, and other nations have captured the traditions, societal changes, urban and natural landscapes, and varied architectures of their countries. Investigates the cultures and histories of various Latin-American countries through the lens of nostalgia, propaganda, a populist aesthetic, and evolving perspectives. 'Looking In, Looking Out' presents work by twenty photographers that spans 80 years" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Alejandro Cartagena, Luis Gonzalez Palma, and Latin-American photography collectors. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the 2015 First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with the 2017 Reissued Edition. A rare copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white and color plates. Some of the greatest photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO "IMAGE AND MEMORY: PHOTOGRAPHY FROM LATIN AMERICA 1866-1994" TITLE IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1590054229. no.…
