Ajouter au panierA report consisting of victim testimonies of labor violence against black and white workers employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Gulf States Steel Company in Gadsden, Alabama, beginning in the summer of 1936. The Gadsden Central Labor Union (AFL) who represented many of these workers first appealed to Governor Bi…bb Graves who claimed the accounts were exaggerated or fabricated. They then invited a group of out-of-state ministers, educators and other professionals to convene a committee to investigate the claims that workers were being seriously assaulted and intimidated for participating in union activity. The committee listened to nearly 40 testimonies from victims and witnesses before concluding that workers were being denied their civil rights by company management and goons. The report was then released to the public by the Gadsden Law and Order Committee. Despite their efforts, Gadsden continued to experience violent labor struggles throughout the 1940s.
