Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. No Jacket. Two faint reading creases to spine of this otherwise pristine (unread) hefty trade paperback, call it "near-fine." Published in the Year 2000 (although this text originally copyright 1984.) Brief preface to the 1999 reprint explains the recordings are still referred to here by their shellac or vinyl record numbers, as adding the numbers of the numerous CD reissues was judged to be "a nightmare and an unending task." The short final chapter is called "The Transition to Modern Jazz," featuring "Hot Lips" Page, Red Norvo with Charles Mingus, Roy Eldridge, Charlie Parker, etc. (The modern bop era to be forthcoming in Vol. II.) 595 pp. including Index. Reduced from $70.…

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Orange pictorial board cover. Very slight bumping to top and bottom of spine plus very, very light sun fading to spine otherwise the cover is excellent. In near fine condition internally. There is a hand written small label at the top of the spine but there is no evidence that this is or has ever been a library book. This is a very personal selection of the 250 best jazz records mostly L.P or 78's each record is placed in context and reviewed in depth. This is an indispensable and very readable reference work. A very scarce hardback in the UK.…
