Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating and controversial figure of Eldad ha-Dani, a Jewish traveler who emerged in the 9th century with captivating tales of lost tribes of Israel and a unique ritual for slaughtering animals. For over a millennium, scholars have debated Eldad's authenticity and motives. Was he a genuine explorer, a cunning Karaite emissary, or simply a skilled storyteller? This book meticulously examines the available texts, including newly discovered fragments, to reconstruct Eldad's original writings and disentangle truth from legend. Through careful analysis of Eldad's Hebrew and the content of his ritual, the author sheds light on the historical and cultural context of his claims. By comparing Eldad's work with established Rabbinic, Karaite, and Samaritan traditions, the book reveals intriguing connections and raises new questions about the evolution of Jewish practices. Ultimately, this book offers a fresh perspective on Eldad ha-Dani, inviting readers to reconsider his place in Jewish history and appreciate the enduring impact of his enigmatic legacy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
