These 17 talks were delivered at the second Southern Sociological Congress in 1913. Features Dr. Charles V. Roman's address, "Racial Self-Respect and Racial Antagonism." Roman (18641934), one of the few African Americans to participate in the Congress, was a physician, professor at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, and served as president of the National Medical Association (190405). He was known for his advocacy of racial solidarity and self-improvement.
