There is also an artistic kinship between the two with respect to their painterly idioms, as well as in relation tho their motifs. This publication moreover looks into the underlying themes of theirrespective oeuvers. With subjects such as sexuality, gender, loneliness and alienation, both artists deal with a certain dystopian critique of modern civilization. Might Munchs oeuvre even be understood in light of Melgaard, and in that sense blur and twist the boundaries of their artwork with regard to history and contemporay society?
