Als Basishypothese wird davon ausgegangen, dass die orthodoxe Mainstream Ökonomie ganz wesentlich auf dem neoklassischen Paradigma basiert. Als Ansatzpunkt für heterodoxe ökonomische Ökonomien werden die wesentlichen Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen der Neoklassik und dem Neoliberalismus dargestellt. In weiterer Folge werden die zentralen Kritikpunkte am herrschenden ökonomischen Paradigma mit der provokanten Textierung 'Kognitive Dissonanz zwischen Neoklassik und Neoliberalismus' aufgezeigt.Im zweiten Unterkapitel beschäftigt sich der Autor detaillierter mit dem Marxismus und der daraus sich entwickelten radikalen Ökonomie. In weiterer Folge werden zentrale Überlegungen von Keynes wie des Neokeynesianismus dargestellt. Im Anschluss werden zentrale Kennzeichen der feministischen Ökonomie vorgestellt, die unter anderem Fragen wie jene der unbezahlten Arbeit, der Entwicklung der Frauenerwerbsquote, der unterschiedlichen Bezahlung und generell die Rolle der Frauen in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften thematisiert.Im nächsten Unterkapitel beschäftigt sich der Autor mit der österreichischen Schule der Ökonomie.
