Scarce surviving copy. Washingtonian is a monthly regional magazine distributed in the Washington, D.C. area, with a focus on local feature journalism, guide book-style articles, real estate, and politics. Founded in 1965 by Laughlin Phillips and Robert J. Myers, the general interest publication describes itself as "The Magazine Washington Lives By." As of 2026, Washingtonian has hundreds of thousands of readers, including a paid circulation of more than 93,000. Washingtonian publishes information about local professionals, businesses, and notable places in Washington, D.C. It also releases rankings of notable individuals in the area. Each issue includes information on popular local attractions, such as restaurants, neighborhoods, and entertainment. There is regular in-depth feature reporting on local institutions, politicians, businessmen, academics, and philanthropists. Since 1971, the magazine has annually nominated up to 15 people as "Washingtonians of the Year." The magazine describes the award as honoring men and women "who give their time and talents to make this a better place." Washingtonian has won five National Magazine Awards. The Cover/lead article is entitled Our Year of Trump. It described Donald Trump as the most unusual, divisive, impulsive, unpredictable, disruptive President of the modern era. He's also our neighbor. A look at how one city has dealt with 12 exhausting months. Remember when everyone was talking about inaugural-crowd size estimates? Think hard now: Side-by-side pictures of Barack Obama's inauguration and Donald Trump's? A presidential phone call to a Park Service higher-up? The press secretary's blanket declaration that it was the biggest audience in history? That all happened-what? Six, seven years ago? Alas, no. It was within this very calendar year, albeit before everyone was talking about the travel ban, Neil Gorsuch, Robert Mueller, the Obamacare repeal bill, the Comey hearings, the Paris accord, the other Obamacare repeal bill, the North Korea nuclear crisis, the Charlottesville Nazi rally, DACA, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, the Las Vegas shooting, the Mueller indictments, and the New York terror attack. It was also before everyone was talking about reports that Trump had berated the prime minister of Australia, shoved the premier of Montenegro, engaged in competitive handshakes with the president of France, accused Barack Obama of wiretapping him, and been variously furious at Sean Spicer, Steve Bannon, Jeff Sessions, H.R. McMaster, Rex Tillerson, Reince Priebus, Gary Cohn, John McCain, Bob Corker, Mitch McConnell, Stephen Curry, the intelligence community, CNN, NBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the mayor of San Juan. There are plenty of people-even in our deep-blue region-who view the Trump presidency as a much-needed disruption of the status quo. There are others who shrug and assume that the carnival will eventually move on. And, of course, there are people who are horrified and frightened by the events of 2017. But one thing we figure they'd all agree on: It's been exhausting! Nowhere more so than in Washington, the town whose biggest industries have been most affected by the new normal, a place where actual people's actual jobs are being changed, eliminated, reimagined, or threatened. Someday, historians will write about the big national issues in play-health care, the tax structure, national security, nuclear war, the survival of American democracy. But as the clock runs out on the Year of Trump, we have a more modest ambition: tracing the history of our city's consciousness in a year when news-the real kind as well as the kind that didn't exist before the Twitter presidency-came faster than ever. Presumed First Edition, First Printing this issue.…

Washingtonian is a monthly magazine distributed in the Washington, D.C. area. It was founded in 1965 by Laughlin Phillips and Robert J. Myers. The magazine describes itself as "The Magazine Washington Lives By". The magazine's core focuses are local feature journalism, guide book-style articles, real estate, and politics. The Washingtonian is noted for its detailed coverage of area professionals, businesses, and places. Such rankings have included top physicians, top places to dine, and top neighborhoods. Each issue also features listings of the latest fine entertainment, fine arts, and museum exhibits. Classified listings of prestigious real estate and illustrated coverage of social events are included in each issue. Feature articles include exposés and in-depth profiles of local institutions, politicians, businessmen, academics, and philanthropists, suggestions for weekend getaway trips, and local personal interest stories. The magazine chooses Washingtonians of the Year, people "who give their time and talents to make this a better place" annually. This is a Special Issue on the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump. The Inauguration Issue: As the nation prepares to inaugurate the 45th president, Washington is nervous: how might a Donald Trump administration impact the city we love? In this special section, we take a look at what might be in store for our region. Plus: how to enjoy-or avoid-inauguration weekend, a first family with surprisingly robust local ties, and 29 names you'll hear a lot of in the next four years. Among the features are: The Tragedy of Christopher Barry--During his short lifetime, Marion Barry's son had access to some of the city's fanciest circles. It wasn't enough. Last summer, after years of brushes with the law, the only son of DC's legendary mayor died of an overdose in a grimy apartment complex. Marion Barry's biographer tells the story of what it was like to grow up in the shadow of a famous-and famously troubled-father. By Harry Jaffe; Washingtonians of the Year--Eleven locals-from Lonnie Bunch to Ryan Zimmerman-whose commitment to helping others makes Washington a better place to live. By Leslie Milk; The Nation of Flying Dog Flying Dog brewery has become the region's craft-beer titan. Along the way, its owner has been waging a politically charged battle over the First Amendment. By Amanda Whiting; Newcomer's Guide--Hometown jargon, foodie secrets, tricks to hack the city's road map, how to identify which motorcade is blocking your path, and other essential knowledge for new transplants. Edited by Sherri Dalphonse; Inauguration 2017--Fifteen smart locals on how Donald Trump could change Washington, 29 names to know, how to revel in Trump's inaugural-and how to avoid it altogether. Edited By Sherri Dalphonse. SPECIAL INAUGURATION ISSUE: Presumed First Edition, First printing thus.…
