Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book studies the data collected from observations of over 2,000 stars from the early 19th century and applies modern astronomical knowledge to define the exact position and movement of those stars. It also includes examples that explain why certain stars show large discrepancies between their expected and published positions. Of particular note in these discrepancies is the significant impact on calculations arising from small offsets in observations. The author provides historical context for the existing knowledge of the time, discusses the methods used to make observations, the challenges in making those observations, and the techniques used to determine movement and position. This book will appeal to anyone interested in the history of astronomy, the methods used by early astronomers, and the accuracy of those methods.
