Ordained in 1845, Crooks was forced to confront the moral conflicts of his day, namely slavery. Finding strength in prayer, he became a leader in the Wesleyan Methodist movement and spent years traveling and preaching throughout the South. His activism, including the establishment of churches and schools, was met with both support and violent opposition. In shining a light on the life and work of Adam Crooks, this book fills an important gap in the history of the fight to abolish slavery.
