Period mottled calf, spines tooled in gilt, raised bands, morocco lettering pieces, gilt dentelles; original green page-marking ribbons have survived 250 years. Some shelf wear, spine ends a little… worn, previous owner's bookplates [those of "J.E.B."]partly removed from front pastedowns], old booksellers stamp on front pastedown, old india ink comment inscribed on both title pages. Very little foxing. See scans. Remarkably, Very Good or better condition in a very old, very rare piece. Now famous for its seminal scholarship, Histoire des Plantes des l'Europe. was written anonymously by Deville and so published in 1683, then was re-edited and re-published several times because of its importance. One of the rarest works on the subject you'll ever see, and in striking condition for its age. Hundred of pages with plant names, detailed descriptions, and a woodcut engraving of each. See scans.
