Founded in New York during the nineteenth century, Martinka became the premier supplier of magical apparatus and literature to professional magicians. The firm is especially notable because it was owned by Harry Houdini during the latter part of his career. Original Martinka stamps are highly desirable to collectors of magic memorabilia and literature. Additionally, this volume was owned and signed by Richard Robinson, better known as "The Science Magician." In very good condition; professionally rebound in maroon cloth with gilt title on the spine. Slight shelf-wear to cover with light bumping at the bottom of the spine. Pages themselves are clean and unmarked with light foxing. Front end-paper and half-title slightly folded in the bottom right corner. Some pages are somewhat creased along the hinge, due to the new binding. Ernest Noakes was a London society magician and a prominent member of the Magic Circle. Noakes was the second President of the Magic Circle and later as Honorary Vice President.
