Die Schifer behielten die Herrschaft, die damals auch Schifersfreiling genannt wurde, fast 300 Jahre lang. 1605 wurden sie in den Freiherrenstand erhoben. Georg Ehre…nreich Freiherr von Schifer verkaufte den Besitz 1669 an den Hofkammerpräsidenten Georg Ludwig Graf Sinzendorf, der Freiling umgehend gegen die Herrschaften Peuerbach und Bruck/Aschach eintauschte. Neuer Besitzer wurde Georg Graf Kauthen.
