Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. This approximately 6 x 9 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch volume has 730 pages (the full page illustrations are blank on the verso side and neither is included in the page count)/, a fold out map, Index, and 8 pages of advertisement. There are 200 illustrations, including a frontispiece that is protected by a tissue guard. The book is bound 3/4 brown leather and marbled paper, has four raised bands, and gilt lettering and decorations on the spine. All edges are also marbled. The fore edges of the boards show wear and the actual board in multiple areas. It also appears that the front board and the pages through xii, had gotten wet at one point, e.g. the marbled paper at the edge is lifting, there is discoloration to some of the pages, the verso side of the front free end paper and the next end paper are stuck together and there is some areas of paper loss to the other edges through the frontispiece-does not affect the image. The book also presents as a bit off square. There are several small brown spots to last few pages of the book and one small area of brown that impacts the margins, edges of pages 155-183-no text is impacted. A previous owner's name is on one of the front end papers in pencil. This book is heavy and will require additional postage to that which is automatically assigned. The date on the copyright page and title page match with no additional printings noted. Please look at the images carefully, and ask questions about this item prior to making a purchase. Thank you.

William Henry Seward (May 16, 1801 October 10, 1872) was an American politician who served as United States Secretary of State from 1861 to 1869, and earlier served as governor of New York and as a United States senator. A determined opponent of the spread of slavery in the years leading up to the American Civil War, he was a prominent figure in the Republican Party in its formative years, and was praised for his work on behalf of the Union as Secretary of State during the Civil War. He also negotiated the treaty for the United States to purchase the Alaska Territory. William H. Seward's Travels Around The World (1873) is a book written by William Henry Seward, an American politician who served as the Secretary of State under President Abraham Lincoln and President Andrew Johnson. The book chronicles Seward's travels around the world, covering his journey from the United States to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The book is divided into several parts, each of which covers a different leg of Seward's journey. The first part covers his travels through Europe, including visits to England, France, Italy, and Germany. Seward provides detailed descriptions of the various sights he saw, including historic landmarks, museums, and natural wonders. The second part of the book covers Seward's travels through Asia, including visits to India, China, and Japan. Seward provides a fascinating glimpse into the cultures and customs of these countries, as well as their political and economic systems. The third part of the book covers Seward's travels through the Middle East, including visits to Egypt, Palestine, and Turkey. Seward provides a detailed account of his experiences in these countries, including his interactions with local leaders and his observations on the region's history and culture. Throughout the book, Seward provides a unique perspective on the world in the late 19th century, including the political and social issues of the time. He also reflects on the role of the United States in the world and its relations with other countries. Overall, William H. Seward's Travels Around The World (1873) is a fascinating and insightful account of one man's journey around the world during a time of great change and upheaval. It provides a valuable historical perspective on the world in the late 19th century and is a must-read for anyone interested in travel, history, or politics. This is a scarce antiquarian book.
