The US nuclear attack submarine Tigerfish is sent to the North Pole to rescue the personnel of Drift Ice Station Zebra, a British research weather station that has sent out multiple distress signals. Most of the submarine's crew is unaware, however, that the mission is a front for a highly classified assignment involving Soviet saboteurs and stolen satellite technology.
