First edition of this 50th Anniversary celebration which featured an address by Cornelius Vanderbilt as President in 1885, along with addresses and letters of other members recounting the Dutch heritage of New York City. Founded originally in 1835 by Washington Irving and John Jacob Astor with other prominent New Yorkers, the society worked to preserve the early history of the city, and continues to preserve historical and genealogical records of New Amsterdam, and British-ruled New York.
