Bella, importante e rara edizione di quest'opera del grande erudito (Roma 1451 - Volterra 1522), apparsa per la prima volta a Roma nel 1506: ''autentico monumento dell'enciclopedismo umanistico, destinato ad un'immediata fortuna europea., e a rimanere in auge come massimo repertorio enciclopedico fino al XVII secolo'' (DBIt., vol. 67, p. 2549). Si occupa di tutto lo scibile umano possibile alla fine del XV ed inizio del XVI sec. Oltre la geografia, cui sono dedicati addirittura i primi 12 libri, concerne l'anatomia e la patologia dell'uomo (libro XXV), la zoologia (libro XXVI), la botanica (libro XXVII), le scienze matematiche (con figura dell'abaco a f. CCCLXXI), l'ottica (con figure a f. CCCLXXII) e poi ancora la filosofia aristotelica, l'oratoria, la filologia, la giustizia. Però l'opera è importante soprattutto perché tratta delle recenti scoperte degli Spagnoli e dei Portoghesi in America (cfr: Harrisse, n. 43: «.les récentes découvertes des Espagnols et des Portugais son appréciées au point de vue du christianisme qui les avait inspirées. Après avoir glorifié le passage aux Indes par le cap de Bonne-Espèrance, et les navigations vers les îles de l'occident, qui n'avaient encore reçu le nom immérité d'Americ Vespuce, l'auteur dépeint les peuples nouveaux.».
