Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This collection of Ratherius of Verona's (d. 974) works presents numerous previously unpublished writings alongside his better-known texts. Ratherius, the bishop of Verona, was a prolific writer and a prominent figure in the religious and political landscape of 10th-century Italy whose works provide valuable insights into a tumultuous period of history and the development of the Church during the Middle Ages. His writings are a treasure-trove of information about the social, religious, and political life of his time and challenge commonly held assumptions about the so-called 'Dark Ages', revealing instead a period of great intellectual activity and religious devotion. This volume includes Ratherius's influential writings on the duties of clergy and laity alike, as well as his letters and sermons, which offer a fascinating glimpse into his day-to-day struggles and beliefs. By shedding light on Ratherius's life and work, this book enhances our understanding of the complex religious, social, and political transformations that characterized the 10th century.
