Pub Year 1990, See images for condition. About the book >.>.> Eric Bainbridge Catalogue, spanning from 10 October to 18 November 1990, showcases the works of artist Eric Bainbridge, providing insight into his creative journey and artistic evolution. During his student years, Bainbridge produced a striking collection featuring a large, open box filled with clay heads. These heads, which were crafted through repetitious hand movements, bore an uncanny resemblance to unplugged sockets. Their expressionless forms, devoid of functional features such as eyes and mouths, evoked a sense of embarrassment and a stark representation of futility. This portrayal of thick individuals highlights the intersection of solidity and emptiness, serving as a metaphor for perceived stupidity. The collection suggests that the essence of student work often lies in the experience of being a student. Bainbridge's clay heads could be interpreted as a product of a conveyor-belt education system, where the creation of art serves to validate the methods and efforts of educators. Upon reflection, these peculiar head forms contribute to a broader repertoire of images that communicate themes of dysfunction, dehumanisation, and decontextualisation, encompassing both the human body and everyday objects. In later contributions, Bainbridge expanded his artistic scope by isolating organs and transforming them into distinct pieces, indicating a continual exploration of the human condition and the relationship between form and context. This catalogue not only documents Bainbridge's artistic outputs but also invites viewers to engage in a deeper contemplation of the implications of his work within contemporary art discourse.

Ajouter au panierFirst Edition. 30 x 21cm. Pack stapled paperback document, printed recto-only, various pagination [37 leaves], containing the programme and a series of illuminating score notes prefaced by Nyman's two-part short essay 'Notes on the Relations Between Scores and Soundtrack Music'. This is a guide to "a collaborative, alternating programme of films, drawings and live music," and includes essays by filmmaker Greenway and composer Nyman that discuss their collaboration on the short films 'A Walk Through H,' 'Vertical Features Remake,' and '1-100,' and preliminary work on the feature film 'The Falls'. Includes many references to the spurious Tulse Luper - later revealed to be a fictitious reclusive artistic ornithologist character with a meticulously fabricated biography, which Greenaway embellished using a collection of material purchased at a car boot sale from a seller who looked similar to Samuel Beckett. Very rare early item by the film-makers and composers. OCLC locates one copy. Slight discolouration to cover, and rear page slightly escaping the staples, otherwise good condition.
