Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 262 pp, fiction. Binding tight, pages clean and unmarked, paper well-preserved. textured beige cloth backed spine, with paper lable laid on, and blue-red designed paper boards. In glassine wrappern 'In full agreement with George Barrow's remark that "nobody would call a book a no…vel if he could call it anything else," Mr. Van Vechten prefers to describe this work, the action of which passes in New York, 1922, and the hero of which is the god Eros, as "a cartoon for a stained-glass window." He begs his readers to imagine the attitudes of his characters, now sketched rudely in black and white, as they will appear when clothed in their final brilliant and luminous colors. The book is not "romantic" or "realistic" or "life" or "art." Assuredly it is not "fantasy" or "satire." The author has sworn before a notary public that his only purpose in creating THE BLIND BOW-BOY was to amuse. Readers, therefore, are especially warned against the danger of comparing this work with other books, written, apparently, in a somewhat different form, for it should be obvious that no purpose, beyond that just noted, actuated its construction, and no ideas are concealed beneath its surface.' Size: Small Octavo. Locher, Robert E. (illustrateur). Book.

Ajouter au panierEtat : Aceptable. Frames: outside: 40,8 x 57,3 cm (16.06 x 22.56 Inch). Inside: 33 x 49,8 cm (13 x 19.6 inch). In order to inspect both works closely, we have unframed them. Two original designs by Locher has shown up in the back of the cardboards mounts. They are two theatrical costume designs, one of them a Burlesque costume f…or miss Irene Bordoni (1885-1953). Locher worked in Broadway as costume designer, he worked in Hitchy-Koo [1917], starred by Irene Bordoni. Also, in 'Le Feu', we undercover the original marginalia by Locher and colour tests. When framed, these marginalia where covered by the black painting on the glass. So, probably the frames are designed by Locher. Provenance, heirs of Fernanda Wanamaker, daughter of Lewis Rodman Wanamaker (1863-1928). CONDITION. Both paintings are sewn to a cardboard, with acidification. They should be unstitched from the original mounts, in order to preserve both, silk painting and cardbord drawings, in better condition. The cardboards are in fragil condition. The most acidified and fragile one, is the one support of 'le Feu'. Both fabrics have loose threads, not affecting the paintings. They are covered and protected by the frames. The frames shows minors defects and lacks, as shown in pictures. Robert Evans Locher was an american Art Deco interior decorator and stage designer. He manteined a long-term romantic relationship with avant-garde artist Charles Demuth. His work was included in the Murals by American Painters and Photographers (1932, MoMA).
