I SUPPOSE YOU MIGHT ARGUE THAT 'IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE' , ONE OF THE MOST WELL LOVED MOVIES…OF ALL TIME HAS A SIMILAR SETTTING; MAYBE THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN MEETS THEY EYE. THE COVER'S QUITE INTERESTING AND THE CHAP AT THE DESK BEARS A RESEMBLANCE TO ROY FULLER; PERHAPS HE SAT FOR IT. FULLER WAS, OF COURSE, A PROFESSOR OF POETRY AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY, SO ONE COULDN'T POSSIBLY DOUBT HIS ABILITY TO WRITE. BUT, STILL, I JUST CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO SIT DOWN AND INVEST THE TIME IN READING IT. SO I SHOULD BE GRATEFUL TO ANYYONE WHO WOULD TAKE IT OFF MY HANDS AND LET ME KNOW IF IT'S ANY GOOD. The wood engravings were printed from the wood, and the line blocks were made by Keene Engraving. The contents are able to make one gasp with pleasure. They are hand-pressed, the illustrations and other devices are tipped-in. The pages are gorgeous, creamy, thick, luxuriant in their elegance, very clean and very - as if brand new throughout. Original vintage London Transport poster for Kenwood House by the British artist Robert Flavell Micklewright (1923-2013) featuring a painting of the historical 17th century stately home (now managed by English Heritage since 1986) behind a grassy slope and a large tree under the blue sky with the London Underground roundel logo…and text below - Kenwood House stands high on the northernmost ridge of Hampstead Heath. Owned and administered by the Greater London Council, this is London's very own country mansion. Its treasures are endless - a Rembrandt self-portrait, Vermeer's precious Guitar Player, Guardis, Constables, Romneys, Gainsboroughs, a wealth of antique furniture, and that masterpiece of Robert Adam's decorative genius, the Library. Original vintage London Transport poster for Ham House by the British artist Robert Flavell Micklewright (1923-2013) featuring the historical 17th century Stuart house located by the River Thames with a manicured grass lawn and flowers in the foreground, the London Underground roundel logo and text below - Ham House near Richmon…d was built in 1610. Later the home of the Duke of Lauderdale, even amid the Restoration's luxury and prodigality it was one of the most lavish and talked-of houses in the country. It is today much as it was then, magnificently furnished and surrounded by glorious gardens and velvet lawns. Details of when you can visit Ham are in the free Town and Country Houses booklet. Ask for it at any London Transport Travel Enquiry Office, or write to the Public Relations Officer, 55 Broadway, SW1. Then take the Underground to Richmond and walk along the river bank.
