Roma Publication #222. Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at ICA London, this book comprises a selection of paintings by London-based poet and painter David Robilliard, whose work reflects an image synonymous with the queer subculture of 1980s London. Combining figurative elements with text taken from his own poems, his paintings employ coded language, wry wit and a melancholic tinge to impart narratives of passing infatuations, sexual encounters and life's tragedy, as the spectre of HIV looms towards the end of his life. Besides installation views and reproductions of numerous artworks, the book includes a CD of Robilliard reading his poems in 1987.

Very minor nicks to head of dust jacket. Overall in excellent condition. David Robilliard was a poet and painter, championed by Gilbert and George. Born in Guernsey in 1952, he was part of London's queer scene in the 1980s. Both his written and his painted work has a deceptive simplicity. The poems in this collection, published by Gilbert & George, were selected by Robilliard in the year he died.

Ajouter au panierEtat : Near Fine. Limited Edition. 21×15 cm. English, softcover, 110 pp. Artist book. One of only a handful of publications by the artist during his short lifetime. In his signature style mixing poetry and drawings this is an excellent entry book for Robilliard's universe, published only a year before his untimely death due to AIDS-related illness in 1988. This is a numbered and signed copy. Although a 1000 numbered and signed copies were announced, maybe more than half remained unsigned and unnumbered making 'proper' copies like this exceedingly uncommon. Near Fine. Signed by Author(s).
