Gr.-8°, Ln. m. SU. XIII, 402 S. Neuwertiges Ex. ISBN: 9783161563553 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 762.…

Jonathan Miles Robker examines the different versions of the literary character Balaam as attested in biblical and epigraphic literature. By contrasting the distinct information about Balaam presented in the various sources (the plaster inscription from Della, Numbers 22-24; 31; Deuteronomy 23; Joshua 13; 24; Judges 11; Micah 6; and Nehemiah 13), the author seeks to trace the development of characterizations of Balaam from the oldest available material to the youngest in the Hebrew Bible. In this way, Jonathan Miles Robker advances discourse about the literary and tradition-historical development of the texts that became the Hebrew Bible. Beyond the text of the Hebrew Bible, he also traces the continued development of Balaam's characterization through the texts of Qumran and the New Testament. To this end, the author contributes discussions of the history of religion in Antiquity.Mohr Siebeck GmbH & Co. KG, Wilhelmstraße 18, 72074 Tübingen 402 pp. Englisch.…

Etat : Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 356 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Who wrote the material about Jehu in the Bible, when and why did they write it, and how reliable is it? After a thorough text and literary critical examination of 2 Kings 9¿10, this work demonstrates the plausibility of an 8th century origin for the Jehu narrative, which did not exist as an isolated literary tradition, but represented a part of a larger story of Israel¿s monarchic history. Ultimately, this book offers a new redaction-historical evaluation of Kings and a historical reconstruction of the events behind the Jehu narrative based on biblical and extrabiblical literature.…

Hardback. Etat : New. This monograph re-evaluates the literary development of 2 Kings 9-10 within the context of the Deuteronomistic History. This undertaking opens with a thorough text and literary critical examination of the pericope, arriving at the conclusion that the narrative of 2 Kings 9-10 represents neither an insertion into the Deuteronomistic corpus, nor an independent literary tradition. Rather, when considering the Greek textual traditions of the biblical narrative (most especially B and Ant.), one can appreciate the narrative of Jehu's revolution within the literary context of an extensive politically motivated narrative about the Israelite monarchy covering the period from the reigns of Jeroboam I to Jeroboam II. The identification of this pro-Jehuide source within the book of Kings enables a reliable dating into the 8th century BCE for much of the material in Kings focusing on the Northern Kingdom. Comparing this biblical narrative to other (mostly Mesopotamian and Syrian) texts relevant to Israelite history of the period advances the discourse about the veracity of the biblical narrative when contrasted with extrabiblical traditions and permits the plausible reconstruction of Israelite history spanning the 8th and 9th centuries BCE.…

Gr.-8°, Ln. m. SU. VIII, 319 S. Neuwertiges Ex.
