This is the firm's first monograph. With an approach to design that synthesizes creative imagination and rational logic, the firm of Roger Ferris + Partners has pursued diverse and challenging projects for a wide range of clients, resulting in buildings of various types and scales- club houses, offices, theaters, schools, artist studios, restaurants, and more. Hardback. Etat : New. As rigorous as it is sumptuous, the work of Roger Ferris + Partners blends high style and modernist principles. This is the firm's first monograph. From family houses to historic restorations, hotels, and high-tech office spaces - the architectural firm of Roger Ferris + Partners has pursued uncommonly diverse projects at vastly different scales, all with an approach to design that synthesizes imagination and logic. Whether a 1,500-square-foot house on a narrow lot overlooking Long Island Sound, or the Royal Bank of Scotland's US headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut - with a six-story glazed atrium and a "courtyard in the sky" on the roof of its two-story trading floor - a building that is "well conceived and artfully executed, cannot help but be beautiful." Among Ferris' major projects are a golf clubhouse that has turned a conservative typology on its ear with bladelike forms inspired by a racing engine turbine, and a partially sunken service entrance in which impresario Robert Wilson has staged theatrical productions. A design for a restaurant includes not only a central, glass-enclosed kitchen elevated 18 inches above the floor, but an art installation that periodically projects scrolling text on the dining room wall. In every project, the fulfillment of the client's functional needs is rendered in the most elemental and legible way, resulting in both formal elegance and dramatic power.…

One giant colour lithograph advertising poster, sized 40.5 x 46.5 in., on thick paper stock (minor creasing, edgewear, agewear, and couple closed tears w/ repairs), still a bright copy, now mounted on archival foam core and shrunk-wrapped, from the library of Keith Albert Zilk (1927-2020), Korean War Vet, Company D, 40th Infantry, and photographer with Condit Photo Studio, and later with Jantzen Swimwear. First edition of this exceedingly scarce promotional swimwear poster for Jantzen produced under the direction of Roger Yost, former Jantzen Art Director & Advertising & Marketing Manager, designer Byron Ferris, and copywriter Homer Groening (1919-1996), for the 1968 season the year after Jantzen had become the NFL's first apparel licensee. Replacing the iconic "Just wear a smile and a Jantzen" with "Jantzen Speaks Your Language," this poster also sports the revised Jantzen Logo created by Thomas Lincoln, who created a sort of condensed Bodoni which did not previously exist, and worked with John Pistilli, a New York type designer to create the entire alphabet. The swimwear advertising campaign featured such athletes as Frank Gifford, Jerry West, and Paul Hornung wearing wearing the striped trunks, and were also used in 30-minute television biopics created by Portland filmmaker Homer Groening for 120 TV stations. We could find no similar surviving example; See: Trudy Chin, Jantzen, Collaboration Between Design & Advertising in the Jantzen Bullpen, Portland Design History (2020); Ash Horn, Homer Groening, The Vanguard Cartoonist, Filmmaker and Ad Man Who Did it All, Portland Design History (2020).…
