Black and white frontispiece from a painting by Albert Operti. Black and white plates throughout of various illustrations and explorer portraits. Overall, a very good copy.

He w…as one of only six survivors rescued by Rear Admiral Winfield Scott Schley in 1884. Bookplate of former owner, scientist and explorer, Robert Lloyd Lillestrand. Lillestrand was a modern polar explorer experienced in navigation methods and took part in several National Geographic expeditions.
