Very attractive 19th century salesman's sample of this copiously illustrated, and appropriately lavish book on high society. Scarce. 8vo, paginated with various sections from the complete book, roughly 120 pages, plus prospectus and subscribers list at end, partially filled out in ms. Plates, vignette engravings, facsimiles, illustrated initials, headers, tailpieces, etc. Publisher's black, gilt, and blind stamped purple cloth, with cloth samples bound in at front. Boards a bit soiled and dulled, clean internally and very good. …

Hardcover. Etat : Fair. 4to, (280mm.), [166]p. + 15 colour & 24 monochrome photogravure plates, together with numerous illustrations in the text by James Francis 'Frank' Horrabin. A fair copy in original black cloth, lettered in gilt on the front cover: 'Sample.' Rather worn with the stitching strained, and several leaves slightly spotted; Signature of Tom Groves of Leytonstone Road, [London] E15, dated September 1921 on the front flyleaf. Seemingly a door-to-door salesman's sample book, perhaps the Tom Groves noted above (rather than a publisher's representative's blad) for obtaining subscriptions to the volumes. With pre-lims outlining the contents, a number of specimen chapters (or parts thereof) interspersed with the plates as noted above, a 'subscriber's' bookplate is tipped in between the pre-lims and text, and two styles of binding are offered: on the front 'pastedown' is an example of half brown faux leather with tan cloth while of the rear 'pastedown' is another example of a binding style, in this case of half blue cloth with a central piece of pattered cloth. As noted above the condition is not in great state but perhaps the volume saw much use in the hands of would-be subscribers and nonetheless remains an interesting survival.…

TL [booklets included] & Attendance Score sheets [2] included. Booklets illustrated. Box: 12-1/4" x 15" x 1-1/2" Here offered a scarce Chevrolet Salesman's training kit for the 1949 model year. The Direct Selling series was specifically developed and used by Chevrolet from 1935 through the 1950s. The slide films and motion pictures all promoted the the Chevrolet scientific and technological innovations through these bombastic newsreel-type narrations. This 1949 model year of significant historical interest because this the first year Chevrolet introduced new models since 1942. You'll note lower, sleeker profiles, with the lines of the front fenders smoothly blending into the doors, and a two-piece curved windshield not only added to the look, but gave an improved the driver's vision of the road ahead. There were fourteen new models on offer, divided into the Fleetline and Styleline series, including two and four-door fastbacks; notchback sedans, coupes, station wagons (note: this Chevy's last year of structual-wood construction) and a convertible. Improvements in chasis & suspension made 1949 the best handling Chevrolets to date. Age-toned booklets show little-to-no use. Box with extremity wear & a split seam at one corner, cloth hinge broken. Overall, Very Good. All housed in the original Chevrolet printed blue-tweed paper hinged box, lettered in bright yellow.…

They were quite successful judging by the numbers of published copies of their book survived. This copy has 8 "Cerificates of Subscription" laid in for orders. A Special Notice tipped in states "Our Work.will be complete in one volume, providing the sad war in progress is finished by the time the first edition is published" A Very Good to Fine Copy for a salesman's sample.…

Octavo. Two stiff leaves bearing 23 coiled samples (some in color) of fishing line. Publisher's two-brad original boards with gilt cover lettering Original tissues still present. A bit of soiling and tips very slightly bruised. A very cood copy.The fact that the unknown manufacturer calls his wares "artificial gut" tells us that this sample catalog fell in between the time when fishing line form Japan was made form gut and its current iteration; nylon. The last six coiled samples are of colored lines. Generic printing underneath each sample and on the inner front cover.…

A salesman's dummy for this polar work on the dispute between Peary and Cook over who discovered the North Pole. The sample indicates that the complete work contains over 100 illustrations, most of which are "authoritative photographs," and further states, "You have the assurance that 'FINDING THE NORTH POLE' is an authoritative work, by its Distinguished Authorship." Blanks for subscribers are included at the back, though several have been cut out (presumably those with names on them). An interesting artifact from the polar craze of the early 20th century. Unpaginated. Original green pictorial publisher's cloth, stamped in red, gold, and blue. Spine ends worn, corners bumped, lightly soiled. Good.…

Forget-Me-Not Greetings was a division of American Greetings Corp. from 1939-2000. American Greetings started in 1906 as Sapirstein Greeting Card Co. and was not renamed 'American' until 1939. American Greetings has had family in directorial roles since it began in 1906, and is the 2nd largest greeting card company behind Hallmark. Thick, Folio, 13 1/4 x 15 1/2 x 4", Color title page on card, advertisment on verso , contents page with price list ,102pp, with 3 to 8 card samples on every page. Colorful cards mounted on gray card stock bound in a thick red binder, cover detached. Cards in very good condition. One card missing from the first page.…
