Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a novel mathematical method to calculate the secular perturbations in the motion of celestial bodies, as exemplified by the interaction between the planets Saturn and Mars. The author draws upon the work of Gauss and Weierstrass to develop a method that avoids the need for solving an associated cubic equation, a significant improvement over existing approaches. By applying this method, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of the secular perturbations experienced by Mars due to Saturn's gravitational influence, yielding insights into the long-term dynamics of our solar system. The accessibility of this method to a broader audience makes it a valuable resource for students and researchers in celestial mechanics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book documents the work done by the author and his team to determine the parallaxes of 50 stars and describes both the instruments and methods employed, and the results obtained. The telescope and accessories are discussed at length, as are the plates, films, and occulting disc; with the author highlighting modifications made to optimize the quality of the images for measurement. The author also explains how they chose comparison stars and the criteria they developed for selection, contrasting their methods with those of previous researchers. The summary tables include the solutions to the normal equations for each star and provide a rich dataset. The data recorded here represents a significant contribution to the field, as accurate knowledge of stellar parallaxes is key to the study of stellar motion.
