The perception of reality (especially in the medium of film) remains up to the present moment a controversial, and still largely unexplored topic in the fields of philosophy, neuroscience and film theory; therefore the intent of this 'self-study journal' is to focus on a small selection of examples of modern and postmodern film, literature and the visual arts (photography and painting). As well, I will explore a few selected quotations from manifestos in the tradition of early 20th century avant-garde and also will make brief reference to earlier periods.When we accept the 'reality' that is shown to us in the movies, we are giving ourselves over to the illusion of cinema, that is being created by talented cast and crew in the production and carefully honed in post-production by skillful editing. The power of the illusion in cinema is to take us for the time being into another world, and ideally we forget for the moment that we are still sitting in a dark room with a large screen. In the medium of literature our imagination takes control of the world presented by the author's words and is translated into a uniquely imagined reality that is created by the readers own imagination and recollection of memories. Like in the cinema, if a book grabs us we tend to forget our presence in the ('real') world for the time reading the book.

If one looks at the presenteducational landscape of Berlin one will come across a selection of bilingual schools:Ones where native speakers teach nearly the entire curriculum in English, and a largerange of schools offering bilingual classes or modules. The majority of schools still donot offer any bilingual education opportunities.2 Therefore, the benefits of bilingualeducation (German-English) seem to be only for privileged students (cf. Zydatiß 2007),though there are a few exceptions throughout Germany. (Cf. Rabe 2013) The overallamount material available for bilingual education and the teachers being educated for itare still a small portion in comparison to the overall amount of material and teachersavailable in both English and History (monolingual German) in primary and secondaryschool curriculum. The actual material being published often still lacks the degree oftext-based scaffolding described in theory by Pilzecker (1997a) and Wildhage (2003).Interestingly, many ordinary textbooks of English now offer very brief bilingualmodules.The first part of this paper briefly explores some of the linguistic background ofscaffolding text-based material in bilingual teaching of history in German Sekundarstufe1. In the second part of this paper, I will apply my findings to a short bilingual moduleoffered in a contemporary textbook English G21 D4 [year 8] Erweiterte Ausgabe by theGerman textbook publishing company Cornelsen. Looking at a bilingual module in thisexemplary textbook G21 one wonders how much language-related scaffolding wasincluded by the editors due to the real didactical needs of the learners and might havebeen left out in the process of laying out the textbook and the limitations of space in adue to content.

While numerous studies have addressed individual factors, they generally lack a broad theoretical framework that puts the findings into a compiled perspective. Understanding the dynamics of the Arab uprisings implies a perspective that takes transnational processes into account and is not limited to a case by case assessment. Hence, this thesis will focus on the transnational effects of social media in the Arab Spring, by introducing a diffusion model, displaying the importance of sequence and timing of communication, organization and mobilization. To begin with, (2) the current state of research focusing on protest politics and social media communication will be examined to understand the context of the broad scholarly debate. Secondly, (3) method and case selection will be briefly outlined. Subsequently, (4) the theoretical framework and relevance of the contagion thesis will be introduced. The cases of Tunisia and Egypt will be examined and assessed in (5), looking at the factors sparking the protests, the process and dynamics of the uprisings themselves, the role of social media, and the immediate political outcomes. Hereafter, (6) the contagion thesis will be tested by compiling the findings of previous studies and introducing the diffusion model, demonstrating the transnational effects of social media. Conclusively, (7) the findings will be summarized and put into perspective with the broad theoretical framework.

A range of major regional American newspapers such as the SeattlePostIntelligencerin 2009, for example, have gone out of business in recent years.Even nationwide institutionalized newspapers such as the New York Times are notexempt from this overall development.In the digital age there will be a steady rise, not a decline in the generaldemand for news - yet the quality, the long established business models, and thedistribution of media are drastically changing at this point. Jeff Jarvis articulated themost severe change that is currently happening recently in his blog Buzzmachine, inwhich he outlines the revolutionary transition from a print to a Link Economy:Those old companies still operate in the content economy, begun 570 years by Gutenberg, inwhich the owner of content profited by selling multiple copies. Online, there needs to be onlyone copy of content and it is the links to it that bring it value. Content without links has novalue. So when search engines, aggregators, bloggers, and Twitterers link to content, theyare not stealing; they are giving the gift of attention and audience. Indeed, publishers shouldbe grateful that Google does not charge them for the value of its links.6In this thesis I will follow Jarvis' line of argumentation that the nature of journalismwill change in the Link Economy in many ways, thereby opening a wide range ofdiscussions among scholars from many different fields.

While numerous studies have addressed individual factors, they generally lack a broad theoretical framework that puts the findings into a compiled perspective. Understanding the dynamics of the Arab uprisings implies a perspective that takes transnational processes into account and is not limited to a case by case assessment. Hence, this thesis will focus on the transnational effects of social media in the Arab Spring, by introducing a diffusion model, displaying the importance of sequence and timing of communication, organization and mobilization. To begin with, (2) the current state of research focusing on protest politics and social media communication will be examined to understand the context of the broad scholarly debate. Secondly, (3) method and case selection will be briefly outlined. Subsequently, (4) the theoretical framework and relevance of the contagion thesis will be introduced. The cases of Tunisia and Egypt will be examined and assessed in (5), looking at the factors sparking the protests, the process and dynamics of the uprisings themselves, the role of social media, and the immediate political outcomes. Hereafter, (6) the contagion thesis will be tested by compiling the findings of previous studies and introducing the diffusion model, demonstrating the transnational effects of social media. Conclusively, (7) the findings will be summarized and put into perspective with the broad theoretical framework. 44 pp. Englisch.

Jeff Jarvis articulated themost severe change that is currently happening recently in his blog Buzzmachine, inwhich he outlines the revolutionary transition from a print to a Link Economy:Those old companies still operate in the content economy, begun 570 years by Gutenberg, inwhich the owner of content profited by selling multiple copies. Online, there needs to be onlyone copy of content and it is the links to it that bring it value. Content without links has novalue. So when search engines, aggregators, bloggers, and Twitterers link to content, theyare not stealing; they are giving the gift of attention and audience.
