Spiral bound. Etat : Very Good. First Edition, First Printing (Assumed). 7 1/2 X 8 3/4 Inches. 188 PP + Tables & Ads. Original "Teacher in Space Cookbook" issued prior to the January 28, 1986 Challenger tragedy. President Ronald Reagan announced his search for a "teacher passenger" for a Shuttle mission on August 27, 1984. Thous…ands of teachers applied for the spot that was given to New Hampshire teacher Sharon Christa McAuliffe. This cookbook was simply a project put together by one of the applicants, Bonnie Fakes, in an effort to have all of the state finalist teachers add a recipe in celebration of their achievement. Christa has two recipes printed. Interestingly, Astronaut Jake Garn and Challenger Commander Dick Scobee also have recipes included. Full page celebration of the winner, Christa McAuliffe, at front. We believe that this book was printed at least once prior to the Challenger disaster (this one). We also believe that at least one later edition was printed with added information on the disaster itself. Original comb binding. Covers a bit worn at corners. Table of Contents page has pulled apart at top few rings. A nice copy of a scarce book. OCLC locates four copies (LOC, Nashville Public Library, Virginia Tech and Ohio State University).

Single Sheet. Etat : Fine. First Edition. Official NASA black and white photograph of the NASA astronaut Dick Scobee in civilian clothes. The photo was taken while he was still an astronaut candidate. Scobee flew on 2 shuttle missions: STS-41C and STS-51L. The latter was the ill-fated Challenger mission, which ended in the death… of Scobee and all others on board. SIGNED, without inscription, "Dick Scobee". Provenance: from the collection of Lee Saegesser, Chief Archivist from 1967 until 1997 in the Washington, DC NASA Headquarters History Office. Certificate of Authenticity available if desired. Signed black and white internal NASA photos are much more scarce than the signed color lithos that normally are offered for sale, and any autographs of Scobee are scarce. The photograph is clean, bright, and unwrinkled. Size: 10" by 8". SIGNED. Photo.
