Guy Mountfort OBE (December 4, 1905 - April 24, 2003) was an English advertising executive, amateur ornithologist and conservationist. Born in London, Mountfort was the author of A Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Europe (1954), with illustrations by Roger Tory Peterson and distribution maps by Philip Hollom. In 1961 he created the World Wide Fund for Nature (then the World Wildlife Fund) with Victor Stolan, Sir Julian Huxley, Sir Peter Scott and Max Nicholson. He was awarded OBE in 1970, for services to ornithology. Hilton Young was Lord Kennet of the Dene). The tissue guards of the colour plates are very browned but they have preserved the plates. Previous owners signature and date to top of front free endpaper. Endpapers foxed. Dw has loss to base of spine and approx one inch square loss to bottom front corner.
