Hardcover. Etat : Poor. 1st Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, full leather binding with marbled textblock. Exterior is in poor shape with both boards detached in leather to spine is missing. Internal binding of the text pages is good and pages are tight. Foldout map at page 778 is still present and attached.…Marbled end pages and pastedowns and front and rear are also present though the front marbled end page has some darkening and chipping along the edges. Front pastedown contains the 19th century bookplate of Annie C. Nutting, second front end page has a signature in pencil of J. S. Nutting. No other handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is some foxing present though this is mainly limited to the first few pages and front and rear. Also found between the pages is a 19th century business card showing the name Geo. S. Ford. This has been placed in a glassing envelope and will stay with the book. Despite the rough exterior (which is the reason for the poor condition grade) the interior of the book grades as VG or better. This is an excellent candidate for rebinding or for reference purposes.

A good+ copy, with some damp staining along the page edges and soiling to the bottom textblock edge and endpapers. Lengthy pencilled note to the front endpaper… from the previous owner, and a name in pencil at the top of the final advert at rear, otherwise text appears to be unmarked. Hinges and binding are solid (strong rebind as mentioned above). 789pp., indexed, black and white illustrations and one fold-out map. Seward's travels to Asia, India, Egypt, Palestine, Europe, the US and more. This title is notorious for losing it's spine strip, so the rebind is actually a positive in this rare case.

This approximately 6 x 9 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch volume has 730 pages (the full page illustrations are blank on the verso side and neither is included in the page count)/, a fold out map, Index, and 8 pages of advertisement. There are 200 illustrations, including a frontispiece that is protecte…d by a tissue guard. The book is bound 3/4 brown leather and marbled paper, has four raised bands, and gilt lettering and decorations on the spine. All edges are also marbled. The fore edges of the boards show wear and the actual board in multiple areas. It also appears that the front board and the pages through xii, had gotten wet at one point, e.g. the marbled paper at the edge is lifting, there is discoloration to some of the pages, the verso side of the front free end paper and the next end paper are stuck together and there is some areas of paper loss to the other edges through the frontispiece-does not affect the image. The book also presents as a bit off square. There are several small brown spots to last few pages of the book and one small area of brown that impacts the margins, edges of pages 155-183-no text is impacted. A previous owner's name is on one of the front end papers in pencil. This book is heavy and will require additional postage to that which is automatically assigned. The date on the copyright page and title page match with no additional printings noted. Please look at the images carefully, and ask questions about this item prior to making a purchase. Thank you.
