Volume covers UK WW II security policy on enemy aliens, fascists and communiste in the UK in the winter of 1939-40 and during the Fifth column panic in the summer of 1940. Not a very edifying picture of government intelligence as Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. Including…eminent scientists, were interned or deported to Canada and Australia (if their ships were not torpedoed en route by U-boats) alongside Nazi PoWs and Italian fascists (very few of them) while detaining Mosley and followers under Defence Regulation 18B. A success was that all Nazi spies landing in the UK were rounded up and some were turned. 408 pages. Quoted postage for UK 2nd class tracked postage. Overseas at least £13.65. Extra EU levy for EU destinations.

This volume and its companions cannot fail to be of exceptional interest in their contribution to the definitive history of the Second World War. All the volumes are bound to stimulate controversy. Doubtless other judgements will be proposed in the independent histories which will follow when most of the archives on which they are based are transferred to the Public Record Office, as they eventually will be.
