sheet_music. Etat : Good. Irving Berlin, Inc., New York. Published date: 1928. Sheet music, paper covers; 1 vocal score (5 pp, including front cover); 31 cm. For voice and piano, with ukulele chord diagrams throughout. Ukulele arrangement by May Singhi Breen. Cover illustration by Rose Starmer, depicting a man gazing upward at a woman standing on a balcony, connected by a trailing garland of flowers. Inset photographic portrait on the front cover features Emil Seidel, labeled "Featured by Emil Seidel." In good condition. Paper covers have a few 1" or less nicks and tears along bottom edge and show light overall age toning, scattered light creasing, and mild edge wear. Interior pages lightly age toned but unmarked. Popular American love song written by lyricist Gus Kahn (1886-1941) and composer Joe Sanders, issued in 1928 by Irving Berlin, Inc. The song reflects the late 1920s popular ballad style, combining romantic lyricism with a gently flowing waltz tempo. The arrangement by May Singhi Breen incorporates accessible ukulele chord diagrams, reflecting the widespread popularity of the instrument during the period. The rear page contains publisher advertising featuring a musical excerpt from Irving Berlin's song "I Can't Do Without You," rather than the title cited in some catalog records. Rose Starmer (active circa 1910s-1930s) was an American commercial illustrator best known for her sheet music cover designs produced during the Tin Pan Alley era. She specialized in romantic and narrative illustrations with theatrical settings, balconies, gardens, and decorative floral motifs. Her work is typically signed with the initials R.S. or her full name and represents a distinctive strand of early twentieth-century American popular music graphic design.ASCII-only confirmed; no curly quotes; no en/em dashes; diacritics removed.

Sheet Music. Etat : Good. Irving Berlin, Inc., Published 1925. Sheet music, 6 pp.; 31 cm; illustrated Art Deco cover by Sydney Leff; with ukulele arrangement by May Singhi Breen. In Good condition. Blue illustrated wrappers depicting a fashionable flapper in a cloche hat and fur-collared coat, moderately toned and soiled with some color loss along the edges and spine; edges and corners bumped and creased, a few small nicks and edge tears, and a slit at the foot of the spine fold running about halfway up, repaired long ago with now-aged tape. A previous owner's name in ink to the front cover. Interior toned but unmarked, with occasional spotting and soiling. One of the enduring Kahn and Donaldson collaborations: lyricist Gus Kahn (It Had to Be You, Makin' Whoopee) and composer Walter Donaldson (My Blue Heaven, Yes Sir That's My Baby) turned out this comic 1925 number, first recorded that year and later revived by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in 1948 as the team's first chart record. Cover art is the work of Sydney Leff (1901-2005), among the most prolific sheet-music illustrators of the Jazz Age, whose covers include Stormy Weather, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Ain't Misbehavin'. The ukulele arrangement is by May Singhi Breen, the performer and arranger known as The Ukulele Lady, who did much to establish the ukulele part as a standard fixture of published popular song. Page 5 prints a set of comic Extra Choruses. Back cover advertises Then I'll Be Happy.

No Binding. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. This is a rare pieces of sheet music, for Piano and Ukelele and/or Banjo. It is 'Perhaps', by Andy Razaf and Paul Denniker, published by Triangle Music in 1929. It was first recorded by Rudy Vallee that year. The ukulele arrangements are by May Singhi Breen. 4 pages of music, plus cover and samples, 9 1/4 x 12 1/4. Aside from tiny wear marks at the edges, condition is superb. It is both frameable and usable. Paul Denniker was a pianist, singer and bandleader whose work became more famous when it was recorded by Miles Davis and Fats Waller, among other jazz greats. There is more known about Razaf, who wrote some of the greatest hits from the Tin Pan Alley era, including Ain't Misbehavin, Honeysuckle Rose, In the Mood, Stompin at the Savoy, The Joint is Jumpin etc. He died in 1930 and was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 1972. NOTE: I have a lot of sheet music listed here. Contact me if you'd like to buy more than one piece and combine shipping.

Etat : Very Good. Vintage sheet music for the fox-trot song, "Let It Rain, Let It Pour" or "I'll Be in Virginia in the Morning," for piano and ukulele. One of several variants, each with a different vignette photo of performing artists. Great patterned flapper illustration on the front, the artist signature in the lower left corner, unknown. A rosy cheeks woman applying lipstick, sitting on luggage, appearing confident and ambitious, or at the least carefree, as the title would suggest, with an ominous bellhop character in blackface. The song itself is rollicking, instrumentally, with a ukulele accompaniment by Breen, who would be known as "The Original Ukulele Lady" and the first woman inducted in the instrument's Hall of Fame. Leopold Feist ran one of the largest publishers of music at the time and produced visually stunning duochrome sheet music, beginning in the early 20th century. He had a handful of often used composers, focusing mostly on folk, blues, and dance numbers. Donaldson and Friend were both prolific, and both contributed to film soundtracks: Donaldson also penned "The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady" and "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm (After They've Seen Paree)?", and Friend was from Tin Pan Alley, writing hits "Lovesick Blues," "My Blackbirds Are Bluebirds Now," and the Looney Tunes theme song, "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down." 9 x 12 inches, six pages: folded wrapper and loose leaf laid in. Very Good, short spine tears, toning, name in ink on the front, faint creasing.
