The author meticulously traces the lineage of kings and rulers from the very beginnings of the world, drawing on biblical accounts and weaving in tales of mythical heroes. The text is a captivating journey through time, encompassing the creation, the flood, the fall of Troy, and the founding of Rome. The author, a Benedictine monk, pays particular attention to the history of Britain, focusing on the rise of its monarchs and the complex political relationships between England, Scotland, and Wales. The text reveals the author's strong belief in English superiority, particularly as it relates to Scottish kings, whose frequent rebellions against the English crown are repeatedly emphasized throughout the narrative. It challenges popular misconceptions and sheds light on the often-overlooked complexities of liturgical practices during this period. The author meticulously examines the transition from the Book of Common Prayer to the Book of Common Order, commonly known as Knox's Liturgy, and its eventual replacement by the Westminster Directory. The book explores the influences of various factions, including the English reformers and the Brownists, on the development of worship practices. It also highlights the role of the Readers, who played a crucial part in leading prayers and scripture readings in the absence of ordained ministers. This exploration of historical documents and records offers valuable insights into the debates and controversies surrounding liturgical forms, extemporaneous prayer, and the role of music in worship. The author contends that the influx of English sectarianism significantly impacted the Church of Scotland, contributing to divisions within Scottish society. By examining the past, this book seeks to inform present-day discussions about worship and promote a deeper understanding of the historical factors that have shaped the Church of Scotland's unique identity.
