Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Koro, a Maori man who converted to Christianity and became a lay reader and churchwarden for his community on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. His efforts to spread Christianity and encourage the adoption of European values were instrumental in reforming the community, helping to curb the violence and immorality that had plagued it. The book is not only a personal account of Koro's life and work but also a valuable historical document that sheds light on the relationship between Maori and European settlers in New Zealand during the 19th century. It explores the challenges faced by Maori communities as they adapted to Western culture while preserving their own traditions and customs. Through Koro's story, the author delves into the complexities of cross-cultural interactions, religious conversion, and the search for identity within a rapidly changing world.
