The story of how they came to be used and developed is long and fascinating. For eight years, he was the editor of The Monthly Review, the Institute of Trading Standards Administration (ITSA) journal, and of two books. ## ## Maurice Stevenson was also a senior inspector of weights and measures and an enthusiastic collector of old weights and measures in 1955 he formed a library for the ITSA which is now housed at the University of Sussex.
