Shot down over the Dutch city of Utrecht, surviving a parachute drop from 26.000 ft. he spent the rest of the war in Stalag Luft 3, the camp from which The Great Escape took place. A mass escape by tunnel that resulted in a massacre, on Hitler's orders, of many of the recaptured officers. The author, a Hampshire man from Portsmouth, was awarded the D.F.C. for his services to King and Country. This fascinating story of the events that carried him from student to stalag is told with humour, making light of the suffering and hardship he and his fellow prisoners had to endure.
