The drama was fueld by designs from the Herreshoff drawing board and recorded by Stephens in numerous magazines and newspapers. The Notes create a three-dimentsional dialog among the writers. They examine heretofore unexplained episodes in yachting history such as the bizarre protest by Lord Dunraven against DEFENDER that resulted in his expulsion from the New York Yacht Club.
