Devitalized tissue provides a favourable environment for microbial growth and thus its removal will also reduce microbial load. Surgical debridement has been the mainstay of treatment of wounds of various etiologies. Due the current problems of antibiotic resistance and the difficulties in controlling MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infection have led to increase interest in maggot therapy of wound healing.
