First edition thus. xvii, [i], 210pp. Njáls saga, which can be translated as The Story of Burnt Njáll, or The Saga of Njáll the Burner, is a thirteenth-century Icelandic saga that describes events between 960 and 1020. The saga deals with a process of blood feuds in the Icelandic Commonwealth, showing how the requirements of honor could lead to minor slights spiralling into destructive and prolonged bloodshed. Einar Ólafur Sveinsson (1899-1984), was an Icelandic scholar of Old Norse literature, Professor of Icelandic Literature at the University of Iceland and a foremost interpreter of Njals saga. The book is bound in the original purple cloth covered boards with blue titling on the spine. The book is in very good condition with bumping to the top of the spine and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is browned. Up to about 1/4" is missing from around the top of the spine and a small part of the top front edge. Some small tears near the top of the spine and the top rear edge have been repaired on the reverse with document repair tape.…
