The long-standing emphasis on continuity, as was embedded for centuries in traditional media, formats, and hereditary lineages, was rejected by some in favor of a radical new approach, particularly within the field of ceramics. This volume examines the origins of that shift by presenting works created before 1990 by both independent artists and members of Sodeisha, tracing the early rupture with established ceramic traditions.…
