Partendo dall'istituzione della Missione archeologica italiana a Creta (1899), passando per il 'discorso dell'antico' nella guerra italo-turca (1911-1912) e la nascita degli organismi di tutela nelle colonie di Libia e del Dodecaneso, il libro ricostruisce questa stagione attraverso il vissuto dei suoi protagonisti (degli archeologi come degli 'scavatori' reclutati localmente) e, al tempo stesso, getta luce sulle reazioni locali all'?espropriazione'. Ampio spazio viene poi dedicato al fascismo, mostrando la centralità dei nuovi siti libici (Cirene, Sabratha e Leptis Magna) nelle politiche del consenso del regime. Libro.…
