In near fine cream coloured quarter velum and pale blue cloth boards with gilt titles to spine. The boards are very flat, tight and clean and have strong spine ends. The free end papers are slightly tanned. There is a tiny black bookseller's sticker on the front paste down from Charles Wilson, Liverpool on the front paste down. The text block is illustrated with etchings by Marcel Vertes. The pages are tightly bound, even and not marked. Near fine condition. No dedications etc. In fair pale grey pictorial slip case with tipped in etching on each side and black titles. The slip case's front tail edge is torn and all the edges are quite worn; it is also a little grubby.

A Hungarian edition of Vertés' book Amandes Vertes (i.e., Green Almonds, but also a pun on the artist's name), published in French in 1952. Attractive book with many sketches reproduced. A memoir of the artist's Paris years, basically between the two World Wars, when he was a leading portrayer of gai Paris. Afterword by Lazar Endre Bajomi, giving a chronology of Vertés' life. The afterword also reproduces some of Vertés' earlier Hungarian work, which was more political and expressionist.

Vertès illustrierte Bücher bekannter französischer Autoren und arbeitete als Kostüm- und Bühnenbildner für Theater, Ballett und Film. 1952 erhielt er zwei Oscars für die Ausstattung des Films "Moulin Rouge". Er saß auch in der Jury der Filmfestspiele von Cannes. Bei Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs nach New York emigriert, pendelte er später zwischen den Kontinenten hin und her und starb 1961 in New York.
