Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : Very good +. First Edition, Limited Edition. First Edition, Limited Edition. Paperback. Written in response to the news of Anne Sexton's suicide in 1974, this poem by Julia Vose was published in 1975 in an edition limited to 300 as A Works in Progress Chapbook from the short-lived publisher of poetry, prose, and plays, Smoking Mirror Press of San Francisco. Exploring the life, death, and literary career of Anne Sexton, her friend and predecessor in suicide Sylvia Plath, the Pulitzer Prize, Maxine Kumin, "the persona machine," and the female sexual submission of "The Story of O," this 11-page poem from the mid-1970s speaks to the complex impact the suicides of literary titans like Sexton and Plath meant, especially to other women poets, during the era of the Women's Rights Movement. "And Mrs. Sexton really did leave her Pulitzer at home today & driving home Mrs. Sexton said to herself If I have only one real friend in all the world & she is just like me & we are in perfect agreement & we tell it all Then I am more alone than I knew It is here I can drive through the sky right through my own garage Who's car is this car I'm driving********" 8 1/2" X 5 3/8". [12pp.] Staplebound in black and white wraps designed by the author. Mild edgewear and toning to binding, with bumping to top corner, else fine, firm, and sound. Pencilled bibliographical annotations to rear wrap at edge of spine. Pages are clean and unmarked.
