Spines decorated with five slightly raised bands, gilt lettered maroon title… labels, and reddish-brown gilt lettered author/volume labels; spine ends scuffed; boards' leather corners bumped and worn; spines and corners have some surface abrasions. Boards rubbed with Vol. II's front board having some surface peeling. All edges yellow. Marbled endpapers. Ink stamps "Edw, Schuch." at top right of each volume's front flyleaf recto (set acquired from a Biloxi, Mississippi estate with no preceding provenance known); pencil underlining and margins marks amongst text; some interior foxing; Vol. I has past bookseller's pencil markings on ffep verso and rfep recto. B/w plates with guard sheets. Bindings are firm. Still a handsome set with attractive shelf presence.
