VG. Glossy hardcovers - no dj. clean and sharp-cornered without fault. no inscriptions or marginalia 1st. This text reports on the findings of the Communities Crime Survey, a communities-based survey carried out within Northern Ireland. The survey asked a number of questions beyond the usual remit of local crime surveys, in order to explore more fully a whole range of issues relating to the experience of living in a society where more obvious manifestations of conflict are beginning to recede and other more mundane but still important issues relating to crime and policing are coming to the fore. The book aims to go behind the headlines of violence and political conflict to examine how people in a range of communities in Northern Ireland experience a whole range of factors relating to crime, policing and the general experience of living within their particular communities. The process of change is far from over in Northern Ireland, and this book indicates how some of the central issues that must be resolved are perceived by a range of ordinary people in various urban and rural communities, in religiously segregated and integrated communities and those with different levels of income and social infrastructure. The experiences and attitudes gathered are important in understanding how the process of change and development in this society might be advanced, and what lessons might be offered to elsewhere. The survey ultimately concludes that Northern Ireland is neither a homogeneous entity nor a society that is simply divided on religious and/or political grounds. Rather it is a society that is divided by religion and politics, but also by a number of other variables, including geography, gender, age, socio-economic class and ethnic origin, all of which in part influence people's experiences and attitudes towards crime and policing.

VG. Glossy hardcovers - no dj. clean and sharp-cornered without fault. no inscriptions or marginalia 1st. The 1990s were heralded the age of women based on the facts that globally, more women are benefiting from formal education and are in paid employment in greater numbers than ever. As such, the possibility that an age of post-feminism has been reached, in which battles for women's basic rights have largely been won, is implied. This book, based on research across academic disciplines, challenges such claims. Using women and work as the basis analysis, the authors consider whether such things as flexible working, equal opportunities initiatives and even contemporary conceptions of citizenship are universally beneficial to women. The book presents research ranging from issues of immigrant sex-workers in Japan to the implementation of EU equality policies and raises the question of whether, as the global economy increasingly depends on women, a growing but uneasy alliance between capitalism and feminism could be developing Book Description: The 1990s were heralded the age of women based on the facts that globally, more women are benefiting from formal education and are in paid employment in greater numbers than ever. Hard Cover. Etat : Very Good. Reprint. Green boards with gold titles to spine. Slight shelf wear to upper spine. No ownership markings. 206 pages clean and tightly bound. This text focuses on organized crime as a worldwide phenomenon that has taken advantage of enabling technology in banking, communications and transportaion to build what is a kind of "virtual" corporation. It looks at organized crime as a threat to national and international security, stemming, in part, from the collapse of the Soviet Union. Organized crime is also seen as a system of transnational alliances with the potential to destabilize democratic values and institutions; distort regional, if not worldwide, economies; and subvert the international order by allying itself with terrorist organizations, rogue states and developing countries in search of rapid industrialization and market dominance. Size: 8vo.
