Four raised bands to spine, gilt lettering to spine. Teg. 9ins x 5.75ins, marbled endpapers. Volume one: xxvii, [v], 344pp plus frontis portrait and 5pp plates. Volume two: lxxii, 304pp plus frontis portrait and 2pp plates. The full title reads "The Life of Cardinal Wolsey and Metrical Visions, from the original autograph manuscript with notes and other illustrations by Samuel Weller Singer. George Cavendish was gentleman usher to Cardinal Wolsey from 1522 to 1530. The plates all have tissue guards, but these only cover the central image, resulting in browning / age toning to the outer edges of the plates. Also browning to blank pages at the start and end of each volume. Good to Good+, but a scarce set. …
