Poems which appeared in the issues of June and July 1936 and Spring 1937 of the periodical 'Contemporary Poetry & Prose', which Roughton edited and financed when aged just 19. Spotted to the edges (primarily the head edge) and a little to the central inner margin, and with some slight bumping, the wrappers with minor, inherent creasing, but towards Very Good overall, in like jacket, moderately rubbed to the head edge and with areas of fading.

Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Arthur Neal (illustrateur). 1st Edition. A previously unpublished essay from the great English nature writer, Richard Jefferies, with an Introduction by George Miller. A lovely, moody etching, printed and signed by the artist, Arthur Neal, is tipped in and acts as frontispiece with a laid in tissue guard. This delightful little book was printed by Daedalus Press in an edition of just 170 numbered copies, of which this is number 169, bound in cloth with marbled paper boards. (Copies 1 - 20 were leather bound.) It is possible that the paper spine label has browned a little (not sure if it was this color to begin with!), and there is the merest hint of rubbing to the lower corner. A very near fine copy that comes with a piece of ephemera from Eric & Joan Stevens' London-based private press: a list of "Current Publications" in which "By the Brook" has been added by hand. MC. Signed by Illustrator(s).
